Babadağ Airspace, Ölüdeniz

Flying here takes place in a defined, notamed airspace. Flying inside it means registering and following the flag decisions.

Last updated 2026-09-01

Flying at Babadağ takes place in an airspace whose boundaries are officially defined and notamed. To fly inside it you must take service from the Slot Service Centre; without registration your flight is not valid in airspace terms either.

The flying site defined

The area within a radius of 4.5 nautical miles centred on 36°32'00"N 029°10'50"E.
That is roughly 8.3 kilometres, and it contains all the takeoff sites and the Belcekız landing areas.

Flying inside the site

The directive requires everyone flying commercially or as an amateur, including training flights, to take service from the Slot Service Centre for the use of notamed airspace. In practice that means:

  • You must be registered in the Slot Service Centre database.
  • Every flight is planned through the Slot Service Centre system and a flight card is issued for each one.
  • Control and coordination of airspace use is the responsibility of the Slot Service Centre. Carrying out the flight safely is the responsibility of the pilot.

For the registration process and the flight card see flight registration.

Flag decisions

The Slot Service Centre publishes a flag decision for each site separately, and following it is mandatory.

FlagMeaning
Red No flying.
Green Flying is possible at the decision of the operator and the pilot. A green flag does not mean conditions suit you, only that the site is not closed.

For the current flag status of each site and the station readings see the live wind page.

Special use zones

Inside the flying site there are zones set aside for particular kinds of flying. A pilot on a normal free flight needs to know where they are, because the pilots working in them fly unpredictable lines.

The Ölüdeniz SIV and acro box and the speed fly areas, seen from the air
The red area is the SIV and acro box, defined over the water and marked as safe below 1000 metres. The green strip is the speed fly landing approach and the green circle is the speed fly landing area.
Stay out of these zones

Do not wander through the SIV and acro box. Pilots working there descend fast. Do not cut across the speed fly approach either; speed wings fly much faster than normal gliders and breaking their approach is dangerous. For detail see landing areas.

Leaving the site

The defined flying site has a radius of 4.5 nautical miles. Soaring flights and sled runs stay comfortably inside it. If you are planning XC, however, most of your route lies outside.

If you are planning an XC flight

On flights leaving the site you must comply with the civil aviation rules published in the Turkish AIP and in the AICs. Check the airspace restrictions along your route before you fly and load current airspace files into your instrument. The Dalaman control zone lies to the north of Fethiye.

For classic routes and turnpoints see XC routes.

Right of way

You are not alone inside the flying site. The directive requires pilots to follow air traffic rules, to watch for other aircraft and to keep clear of them.

  • You must give way to aircraft of lesser manoeuvring capability than your own.
  • The right of way rules published in the AICs for the site apply.
  • On landing, pilots do not enter each other's manoeuvring space and priority goes to the pilot at the lower altitude.

For all traffic rules see local rules.
